Meet the team from Cockburn Libraries!
Hi, I’m Bianca.
Not to sound pompous, but music, books and art make my world go round.
I’ve always loved reading and have always been an avid reader, ever since I could read. I’m also an enthusiastic music concerts attendee, with an eclectic taste, from classical and opera to rock. I also love art in all its many wonderful forms.
As a library officer at Success Library, besides customer service and other administrative tasks such as cataloguing, managing the Hidden Gems collection, I also run the monthly STEAM Club and help run the Gamer Club during school holidays. Occasionally, I contribute blog posts to our library’s website.
When and why did you begin working in a library? Since moving to Australia over twenty years ago, public libraries have become an essential part of my life. You hear experts say one should do what one loves as a job, so three years ago, I decided to go for it, which prompted me to join the student cohort again, this time as an adult, to get my Diploma of Library and Information Services at TAFE. I’ve been working for the Cockburn Libraries for two years now. Even though I don’t get to do any book reading while at work, I love being surrounded by books and the potential they offer. I love the smell and feel of new books! Of course, I borrow quite a few books, my bedside table is never without one or several library books.
Favourite thing about working in a library? No two days are the same, as one engages with different patrons, who have different personalities, needs and requests. Also, my colleagues are pretty cool.

A book you recommend? Any book lover knows it’s impossible to recommend just one book, but one of my favourites in 2023 was In Memoriam by Alice Winn, an incredible historical fiction.
Your favourite place to relax and read? I mostly read in the armchair or in bed. Audiobooks have also become a quintessential part of my life, I listen to one whenever I’m doing chores, go for a walk or shopping – they make chores more bearable.
