Meet the team from Cockburn Libraries!

Hello from Michaela!

I am one of two part-time Branch Support Librarians at Success Library. I’m a mum of two young men, a ‘FIFO wife’ for over 20 years, and we also have a dog and a cat. I’ve worked here at Success Library since we opened in 2014, with this being my third role. My job includes managing and purchasing for our collections (make a request!), organising events, supervising, training, and rostering staff, technology assistance, creating posts such as this one, and more!

When and why did you begin working in a library?  Despite loving books my entire life (‘book’ was one of my first words!), I hadn’t considered working in libraries until I fell into a casual job at Curtin University Library and loved it. I ended up working there for eight years and studying library technology. I then stayed home with my kids until starting at Success as a library officer, and undertaking a Grad Dip to become a librarian.

Favourite thing about working in a library?  The variety – some days I will be dressing up for an event, others will be helping customers learn to use a new device, and others involve buying lots of shiny new books!

A book you recommend?  I find this question hard to answer because I have so many favourites for different reasons or moods. At work, a regular recommendation I make is for The book thief by Markus Zusak (I also enjoyed Bridge of Clay by the same author)

Your favourite place to relax and read?  In my bed!
