Meet the team from Cockburn Libraries!

Kaya! My name is Brittany and I am fortunate to lead the City’s Library team.

I am a country girl, raised in the Pilbara bush. I have two kids – Matilda is 8 and Max is 5 and my husband’s name is Leigh. The newest member of our family is Monte, a cavoodle who we love!

I am the Head of Library and Culture, which means a few things! I lead the City’s major events and festivals, arts and culture, heritage, history, public art and curatorial teams and also head up our civic portfolio. In addition, I am lucky to lead our library teams! I work all over the place, sometimes Spearwood, and alternate weekly between Coolbellup and Success.

When and why did you begin working in a library? I have been in local government for about 14 years with a few breaks in between to learn a few other tricks and about the last 8 have involved libraries. I love what libraries do for communities, I love that they are places were people can connect, escape into the pages of a book and above all else, they are safe spaces.

Favourite thing about working in a library? The people we help, the relationships we build, and the passionate people that run our libraries.

A book you recommend? Three women by Lisa Taddeo was a recent read, I couldn’t put it down! I also have recently read Boy Swallows Universe and am now reading Lola in the Mirror both written by Trent Dalton.

Your favourite place to relax and read? On the beach or curled up in bed with a cuppa (or wine!)
