Di Morrissey is an Australian author who has written so many novels centred around various locations in Australia. Her latest book The Night Tide is no different and is set in the Pittwater area of Sydney’s northern beaches.
This novel centres around the main character Dominic Cochrane, a political staffer for a member of state parliament who has walked away from his long-term career following an election loss. Dominic chooses to take a break in a friend’s converted waterside boat shed in a quietly idyllic Sydney Bay with the idea that he might write a book on his experiences.
He soon adapts to the unique living conditions of the boat shed and builds connections with the neighbours while still keeping in contact with his previous work colleagues and getting some paid employment as a researcher.
There is a lot of intrigue involving Dominic’s nearest neighbour Maggie whose husband Joe simply vanished without a trace twenty-five years ago. Dominic is asked by Maggie’s daughter to investigate her father’s disappearance, however, most of the other family members just want the matter left alone.
There are a few plot twists added to the story and in true Di Morrissey style there is a love interest when Maggie’s daughter Holly finally arrives on the scene. She fits well into Dominic’s life and she also knows all about the people in the area.
It is an interesting book and eventually the mystery of the death of Joe is solved.
I always look forward to Di Morrissey bringing out a new book it’s always guaranteed engaging reading so I would happily recommend it to readers.
