Children’s Book Week Review – That Bird Has Arms!
That Bird Has Arms! by Kate and Jol Temple, Illustrated by Niharika Hukku and Ronojoy Ghosh is nominated for Picture Book of the Year 2024 (Children’s Book Council of Australia)
Roy is different from the other birds in the neighbourhood. Roy as arms. Arms are handy, but Roy keeps his difference hidden, until one day the other birds catch him using cutlery!
This is a story about difference and being brave enough to be yourself. The glorious illustrations and hilarious references to modern life (gluten free loaf of bread anyone?), share the message with colour and humour.
That Bird has Arms! is a humorous story that will appeal to adults as much as children, and reminds us all that being different can be a wonderful thing.
