A Selection of Six anime titles to See this Season

There are many ways in which this year has been weird (so far) and the weather’s definitely been one of them. The autumn leaves are not exactly beginning to fall but their changing colour is enough to tell us it’s time for our next Anime Update!

Among the awesome titles coming into our collection this update is a selection we acquired for our popular Anime Arvo screening in April. So they are now available for you to borrow. Let’s dive in!

Starting with the show that has dominated these last couple years …

Demon Slayer

“It is the Taisho Period in Japan. Tanjiro, a kindhearted boy who sells charcoal for a living, finds his family slaughtered by a demon. To make matters worse, his younger sister Nezuko, the sole survivor, has been transformed into a demon herself.

Demon Slayer - Kimetsu No Yaiba - Part 1_dvd cover

Though devastated by this grim reality, Tanjiro resolves to become a demon slayer so that he can turn his sister back into a human, and kill the demon that massacred his family. A sorrowful tale of siblings in which the fates of humans and demons intertwine… begins now!”

Dr. Stone - Season 1 Part 1_dvd cover

Dr. Stone : Season one, Part one

“The Kingdom of Science is born! Thousands of years after a mysterious force hits the Earth and turns every human into stone, the extraordinarily intelligent and scientific Senku awakens from his petrified prison to find the world in a prehistoric state. Armed with the power of science he is determined to save humanity and begin the rocky road to rebuilding civilization. But first, Senku must find more comrades.”

Adding to our growing list of Fate/ titles, we have:

Fate/Grand order : First Order_dvd cover

Fate/Grand order : First Order

“The Chaldea Security Organization was founded to focus on preserving the continuation of human history. They observe a world which magecraft couldn’t observe, and science couldn’t measure, all to prevent the certain extinction of humanity. But one day, the future that Chaldea continued to observe disappears and humanity’s extinction in 2017 becomes clear.”

Do you enjoy a good sci-fi anime of the cyberpunk variety? Then, of course, you’ll be a fan of the sub-genre defining Ghost in the Shell franchise. Following on from the events of the recent prequel series Arise, we have the somewhat blandly named:

Ghost In The Shell - The New Movie_dvd cover

Ghost in the shell : the New Movie

“When a ghost-infecting virus known as Fire-Starter begins spreading through the system resulting in the assassination of the Japanese Prime Minister, Major Motoko Kusanagi and her elite team of special operatives are called in to track down its source. As they delve deeper and deeper into their investigation, they uncover traces of government corruption and a shadowy broker that bears an all-too-familiar face.

When your target can be anywhere and look like anyone, the only choice you have is to trust your ghost, and hope you aren’t infected too.”

And lastly, another title to add to the voluminous …

Fairy Tail - Guild collection four_dvd cover

Fairy Tail : Guild Collection Four (episodes 143-175)

“Hot-headed fire wizard Natsu and his team of high-powered pals are back! Harnessing the forces of dragon fire, ice, weaponry, and the zodiac, four young wizards from the infamous magical guild Fairy Tail team up. In season four, the guild battle for glory in the Grand Magic Games.”

So there you have it. Our selection of six – wait – there’s only five titles in this list! What the?!

Okay. I said six, so we’ll bend some rules, fudge some numbers and our sixth title will be, ah …

What I’m Watching …

Shadows House_AnimeLab

Shadows House

“The Secrets Lurk in the Shadows…

A faceless clan lives in a large mansion, masquerading as nobles. Their caretakers are living dolls who spend their days cleaning up the dirt the tenants leave behind. But there’s a deeper mystery at play… and the secret of the house will be unveiled.”

Only a few episodes in but so far I would describe this series as an enigmatic and quirky, strange and supernatural Gothic mystery with increasingly dark and … ominous undertones. I’ve got a bad feeling about this!
