Hi Storytime-ers.

Are you aware of the Better Beginnings program? Better Beginnings is a universal family literacy program aimed at children from birth to five years that reaches out to families through public libraries, community health agencies and schools.

The program began with a trial of 1000 families in 2004 and later extended to include the wider Perth area and the rest of Western Australia.

“Funded by the State Government of Western Australia, The Department of Regional Development and Lands through Royalties for Regions, Western Australian Local Governments and Rio Tinto, Better Beginnings has reached more than 600,000 families. Every local government in Western Australia offers the program to families in their communities – from providing the free books and reading packs to running regular baby rhyme time sessions in libraries.”  Better Beginnings

Isabella’s Garden by Glenda Millard & Rebecca Cool is a part of the pack provided to children at kindergarten level. The pack includes a book, a booklet for kids to fill out with a few of their favourite things, a list of helpful reading extension questions to aid in your child’s literacy development and a letter to parents to help them understand how best to encourage good reading habits, and a few other surprises.

I hope you enjoy this week’s virtual story time of Isabella’s Garden.

The library has plenty more books by Glenda Millard and illustrated by Rebecca Cool. Follow the links blow to reserve your copy.

Trivia: Did you know that Rebecca has illustrated a mug for the Australian Breastfeeding Association?
