Hi everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful Mother’s Day last Sunday. Well, by lucky coincidence, this weekend will see the perfect follow up:

National Families Week logo

Starting this Saturday, 15 – 21 May is National Families Week. The aim of which is to take the time to reflect on and celebrate the vital role that families, whatever form they take, play in Australian society – in teaching, supporting and nurturing children. Especially as they grow.

In the library we will be celebrating with Families themed Storytimes. Here are a few of the titles you may enjoy while you’re there: ¬†

A family is a family is a family by Sara O’Leary

“When a teacher asks the children in her class to think about what makes their families special, the answers are all different in many ways – but the same in the one way that matters most of all.”

The Runaway Hug by Nick Bland

” ‘Mummy,’ said Lucy, ‘can I have a hug before I go to bed? I promise I’ll give it back.’ Lucy shares the hug with everyone in her family. Along the way it becomes softer, sleepier, bigger, even peanut-buttery. But when the hug runs away, Lucy discovers that it’s not so easy to get back.”

My mum and dad make me laugh by Nick Sharratt

“Mum is crazy about spots; Dad loves stripes. When they go to the safari park, Mum goes wild about the big cats, while Dad enthuses over the zebras. What animals does the boy like?”

My Grandpa by Marta Altes

“A book about the very special relationship between an elderly grandfather and his adoring grandson. This unique look at old age through the eyes of a young bear is big-hearted, poignant and beautifully observed.”

And as always, we do like to finish off our pram jam posts with a suitable rhyme. Here’s a fun little finger play to try out:
