Mmmmm FOOD! Yummy in my tummy! I’m a sweet-tooth myself, love a bit of chocolate (well, maybe more than a ‘bit’… sometimes closer to a block). I’m also happy with curries, stir-fries, cakes, pizza… and even better if I don’t have to cook it myself.

Join us at Success Library on November 22nd or 25th for a special Yummy in my Tummy Storytime and make a tasty treat.

Yummy books about food
sausagewentwalk

A sausage went for a walk by Ellisha Majid & Peter Kendall

This book has a special place in my heart (and tummy!). My mum bought it for my first child when he was only three weeks old and I have read it dozens of times. I can still recite it, years later! A couple of years ago, the illustrator visited my kids’ school and signed their copy of the book. So it now has a message and drawing from Peter Kendall and a note from their Nin.

Funny illustrations of food come to life and a great rhythm make this an excellent book to share with your children.

For the rest of 2016, the State Library of WA is holding an exhibition, which showcases this Western Australian book, and drawing workshops with the illustrator (these are free but do require bookings). Check out some information on these HERE.

dontfingerjelly

Don’t put your finger in the jelly, Nelly! by Nick Sharratt

Fun rhymes, crazy food animals and holes to stick fingers through – who wouldn’t love all that?! This book is perfect for reading with children or for beginner readers to read on their own. Nick Sharratt is a popular author and illustrator. You can find lots of his fantastic books through our library catalogue.

veryhungrycaterpillar

The very hungry caterpillar by Eric Carle

There can’t be a blog about food books without mention of this well-known and loved book.  The caterpillar sets off on his search for food, then eats and eats until his tummy hurts! The illustrations in Eric Carle’s books are always amazing and children love counting the fruit and sticking their fingers through the pages.

A yummy rhyme

Pat-a-cake, pat-a-cake baker’s man, bake me a cake as fast as you can
Prick it and pat it and mark it with a “B”, and put it in the oven for baby and me.
Pat-a-cake, pat-a-cake baker’s man, bake me a cake as fast as you can
Make it with chocolate, make it with cream, make it the prettiest you’ve ever seen.
Pat-a-cake, pat-a-cake baker’s man, bake me a cake as fast as you can
Mix it and stir it and bake it just right, good from the first ’til the very last bite.
Pat-a-cake, pat-a-cake baker’s man, bake me a cake as fast as you can
Prick it and pat it and mark it with a “B”, and put it in the oven for baby and me.
