Colours! They are all around us, from a blue sky and green grass to our clothes, vehicles and toys. Young children enjoy practising the names of different colours and we can help them to learn these by pointing them out in our day-to-day lives… and in books!

Books about colours

Colours of Australia by Bronwyn Bancroft

The colourful pictures in this book are stunning… I wish I could have them up on my wall! Creative descriptions of how each colour is displayed in nature accompany them and draw readers into a world of beauty.

Brown Bear, Brown Bear, what do you see? by Eric Carle

This title by the ever-popular Eric Carle combines two topics that we love to share at Storytime – Colours and Animals! The repetition, rhyme and rhythm encourage early reading skills and the beautiful illustrations make this book a joy to read.

Mix it up! by Hervé Tullet

This book is a fun, interactive way for kids to discover how colours can be mixed to make new ones. It is bright and engaging for children of all ages (including forty year olds 😉 )
