Hi and welcome to my Pram Jams Blog. As the weather is getting warmer and summer is just around the corner I thought I would write about swimming and the importance of teaching your babies to swim and be comfortable around water. It is so important for babies to feel comfortable and familiar in the water. It is also a good way to stimulate their senses. After all they have been protected and immersed in a watery environment for nine months.

Bath time is a great, easy way to start getting them used to water. To get them used to the feel of water, fill a cup and gently pour it over their head and then let it slowly cascade down their face. Try and make bath time as fun as possible by singing songs and playing games with them.

The next step is introducing them to the pool or the ocean. Swimming is a fantastic way to  bond with your baby. It should also be a fun time as you can sing to them while moving through the water. It is good exercise for helping develop their muscles and you will probably find that they sleep really well after a swim. When you feel they are ready you can start one on one swimming lessons. Teaching your child to swim is a great fun activity and also really important for future water safety. When they first start swimming lessons the focus is on playing in the water and getting them familiar with water and water-safety. They are also less likely to to be afraid of the water in their toddler years and will enjoy going to the pool for swimming lessons. The most important thing is to have FUN with your baby or toddler.

The rhyme I have chosen for swimming is Five Little Ducks:

Five little ducks

FIVE little ducks went swimming one day
Over the hill and far away.
Mother duck said QUACK QUACK QUACK QUACK
And only FOUR little ducks came back!

FOUR little ducks went swimming one day
Over the hill and far away.
Mother duck said QUACK QUACK QUACK QUACK
And only THREE little ducks came back!

THREE little ducks went swimming one day
Over the hill and far away.
Mother duck said QUACK QUACK QUACK QUACK
And only TWO little ducks came back!

TWO little ducks went swimming one day
Over the hill and far away.
Mother duck said QUACK QUACK QUACK QUACK
And only ONE little duck came back!

ONE little duck went swimming one day
Over the hill and far away.
Mother duck said QUACK QUACK QUACK QUACK

And all her FIVE little ducks came back!ducks
