National Simultaneous Storytime 2021 – Wrap Up
Una dreams of a life in Space. Life on Earth is just so so-so. But how will she get there? And will she complete her mission to discover life in space? And did she remember to feed Neil the goldfish?
At Cockburn Libraries we were lucky enough to have Mayor Logan K. Howlett visit Coolbellup Library to read the book at Storytime and we can now share the video with you.
This year’s book was ever more special than normal as the book was sent into space!
And was also read by astronaut Dr Shannon Walker from the International Space Station.
And the people there on Wednesday were part of a group of 1,939,596 readers across 31,696 locations.
Now in its 21st Successful Year
National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS) is held annually by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA). Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator, is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many other places around the country. Now in its 21st successful year, it is a colourful, vibrant, fun event that aims to promote the value of reading and literacy, using an Australian children’s book that explores age-appropriate themes, and addresses key learning areas of the National Curriculum for Foundation to Year 6.
By facilitating NSS we aim to:
promote the value of reading and literacy,
promote the value and fun of books,
promote an Australian writer and publisher,
promote storytime activities in libraries and communities around the country,
and provide opportunities to involve parents, grandparents, the media and others to participate in and enjoy the occasion.
