A House of Her Own is a lovely story about Audrey who decides that her dad’s house is getting to small for her and that she needs a new home. So she and her dad check out the chicken coop – to small, and the garage – too big. So they decide to build Audrey a new house – up a tree. Audrey wants a staircase, a bathtub for snorkelling, somewhere to sit and sip her cup of tea and a blue bed. Her dad is very good and builds her a tree house. Doesn’t every child want their own tree house?….. It is only when Audrey’s dad says goodnight to Audrey that she starts to have doubts about being on her own.
It is a beautiful book by Jenny Hughes and illustrated by Jonathan Bentley about fathers and daughters and what a special bond they have. I think all parents when reading this story will laugh and understand how her dad doesn’t bat an eyelid…….. he just comes up with the perfect house!
