Today is the 1st of December, the official start of the wondrous, amazing, joyful Christmas season.

It’s our very first Christmas here at the new Success Library so we’re celebrating with a Bookvent Calendar. If you’re not sure what a Bookvent Calendar is well…it is an advent calendar full of books. And it looks something like this:

Bookvent Calendar

All of the Christmas elves here at the library, the magnificent Margaret, the devoted David, and the charming Chantelle helped me put this together. From an idea given to me by the phenomenal Paul at the Youth Centre.

Just like an Advent Calendar each day one of the windows will be opened to reveal a book inside. Our first book – a true favourite around the library, and beyond, was How The Grinch Stole Christmas by Dr. Seuss.

Day One How The Grinch Stole Christmas

Once the book is borrowed (it was borrowed before 11am) you can see a picture from the last thirty-five years of Cockburn. It is our anniversary this year after all.

The book for today was borrowed by Tom Artis and he’s already enjoying it.

First Bookvent book borrowed

Tom Artis borrowed the first books from the Bookvent Calendar and then read with his mum in one of our tents.

There will be a new window opened every day in the lead up to Christmas, keep an eye on the blog to see another every day or come down and see if you can borrow the book for Day 2…what will it be?
