“Pick a card, any card!”

Hello Creative Kids,

It’s the first Wednesday of the month and that means that it’s Brilliant Board Games!

Instead of getting you to make your own game this week, I thought that it might be fun to learn a card trick to impress your family and friends.  This trick is pretty simple and with a little practice you will become an expert.

The “pick a card, any card” trick.

All you need to do this trick is a deck of cards and a friend.

Fan out the pack and ask your friend to “pick a card, any card”.

Tell them to look at the card and remember it, but to not let you see the card.

Here’s the trick, put the cards together in your hand and then split the deck in two with half of the deck in each hand.  Ask your friend to place their card on the half of the deck that is in your left hand.  What you have to do is get a sneaky look at the card that is at the bottom of the cards that you are holding in your right hand (in this case it’s the 9 of spades).  You have to remember that card.

Now flip the deck over and go through the cards until you find the card that was at the bottom of the half of the deck that you were holding in your right hand (in this case the 9 of spades).  The card that your friend chose will be the card that is on top of the card that you had a sneaky look at.

Now pull out that card and amaze your friend with your magic skills.

Remember that practise makes progress and that the more times you try this trick, the better you will get.  Once you master this trick, there are many more to try.

I hope that you enjoy learning this card trick.  Next week we’ll be doing some Killer Crafts.

Take care Creative Kids,

Carlie
