Cockburn Chinese Community Association Donated 100 Books in Chinese to Cockburn Libraries

The Cockburn Chinese Community Association (CCCA) runs Stories in Chinese, a monthly storytelling session at Success Library. On Monday 12 August 2019, they donated 100 books in Chinese to Cockburn Libraries and translated one of this year’s Honour books, Heads and Tails: Insects, to share at the event to help us celebrate Children’s Book Week .

To accept the donation Cockburn’s mayor, His Worship the Mayor Logan K. Howlett, JP, attended a special session of Stories in Chinese with Linda Seymour, Cockburn Libraries’ manager.

The donation contains many award winning books including a collection of books by Mo Yan (莫言). Mo Yan was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2012. The books donated include graphic novels, picture books, non-fiction, and an illustrated version of the Art of War. They can be found in the Languages other than English (LOTE) section of Success Library.

Two members of the Cockburn Chinese Community Association, Mandy and Yingying, were instrumental in helping Cockburn Libraries staff. They volunteered at the library in the weeks leading up to the donation to help library staff catalogue the books into the lending system.

Below are photos from the special Stories in Chinese session where the books were donated.

Stories in Chinese sessions are normally held at Success Library by Cockburn Chinese Community Association volunteers on the third Monday of the month. Dates are available in the Stories in Chinese post.

The next session will be held on 16 September 3.45-4.30pm.
