Ever thought about keeping chickens in an urban environment?
Cockburn Libraries have many resources to start you off on this rewarding hobby and an upcoming event to help you learn more!
A couple of years ago, I wrote this blog about sustainable living and chicken keeping, and I’m happy to report that we still love our chooks! These birds are a great pet – easy to care for and most breeds lay around five eggs per week. Every local council has different regulations for urban chicken-keeping, here you can read the City of Cockburn’s chicken regulations.
If you are keen to learn more about keeping chickens in the city, come along to the City of Cockburn Sustainable Living workshop for novices and experienced chook owners alike. The session will cover chicken behaviours and characteristics, suitable habitat and key health indicators. Discover the many benefits of keeping chickens, including weed and insect control for the garden and fresh eggs.
