Last week WA writer Craig Silvey won Book of the Year for his novel Jasper Jones at the annual Australian Book Industry Awards. These awards are voted for by Australian publishers and booksellers. Jasper Jones, Silvey’s second novel, was also shortlisted  for the Miles Franklin Award.

The Miles Franklin Literary Award, which was announced in Sydney on 22 June, was won  by Peter Temple for his novel Truth. He receives $42,000 in prize money.
‘Temple’s winning novel is the much anticipated sequel to The Broken Shore and comprehends murder, corruption, family, friends, honour, honesty, deceit, love, betrayal – and truth. A stunning story about contemporary Australian life, Truth is written with great moral sophistication.’
