Superheroes are making a comeback. If you loved The Avengers, the Green Lantern or Ant-man, then these new TV series are the ones for you. Arrow is a billionaire by day and a vigilante by night. The Flash is the fastest man alive. Both are amazing in their own ways. Be prepared to be dazzled by Barry Allen’s speed and Oliver Queen’s story.

Arrow tells the story of Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell), billionaire bad boy who follows his dad on on a trip on the family yacht. At the time, Oliver is young and attractive. He has everything and he certainly doesn’t believe in responsibilities. He just wants to have fun. Unfortunately, the boat sinks and he ends up stranded on a deserted island for five years. This experience will change him. We learn, one episode at a time, the atrocities that he had to endure and what made him the killer that he is today. Indeed, Oliver is a superhero but he doesn’t flinch when he has to kill a bad guy. He is hell bent on saving Starling City.

Oliver Queen: My name is Oliver Queen. For five years I was stranded on an island with only one goal – survive. Now I will fulfill my father’s dying wish – to use the list of names he left me and bring down those who are poisoning my city. To do this, I must become someone else. I must become something else.

The Flash

The Flash tells the story of Barry Allen (Grant Gustin), a CSI analyst who has been struck by lightning. Barry always believed in the impossible. When he was a young boy he saw his mother killed by a supernatural being and has been looking for clues ever since. As soon as he realizes that he has become the impossible, his goal is to help people so that what happened to him won’t happen to anybody else. Barry has a heart of gold and killing is very far from his mind. He is very young and all this is a thrill to him.

Barry Allen: My name is Barry Allen, and I am the fastest man alive. When I was a child, a saw my mother killed by something impossible. My father went to prison for her murder. Then an accident made me the impossible. To the outside world, I am an ordinary forensic scientist, but secretly, I use my speed to fight crime and find others like me. And one day, I’ll find who killed my mother and get justice for my father.

the flash

First appearing in Arrow, The Flash is actually a totally different show in terms of the story and the atmosphere surrounding it. While Arrow is more mature and dark, almost deprived of supernatural, The Flash is light and funny and deals with meta-humans (people that have powers). I would say that both shows have qualities but have different target audiences. I believe that The Flash will appeal more to a younger public. The scenes are rarely violent and the love story is very tame.

Personally, I loved Arrow. Oliver had to train hard to get where he is today. Nothing was handed out to him and the bad guys that he is fighting are real. He makes mistakes. He is scarred both physically and mentally.

On the contrary, I found The Flash to be too light and because there is so much supernatural I had a hard time following the story-line. For me, it just didn’t make sense like Stephen Amell’s abs make sense.
