In Hollywood, more and more comedies have female actresses as their lead characters. Some of the most recent examples are Ghostbusters or Pitch Perfect. In my opinion, it doesn’t always work but when it does it is simply brilliant. Rough night or Snatched are two blockbusters that you will not want to miss.

Bachelorette party gone bad: Rough night

They were inseparable in college. Jess (Scarlett Johansson), Alice (Jillian Bell), Frankie (Ilana Glazer) and Blair (Zoë Kravitz) swore they would stay together forever. However, life happens and a decade later, they drift apart.  Ten years is a long time. Could Jess’s bachelorette party bring them back together? When they accidentally kill a male stripper, craziness and hilarious moments definitely erupt.

Thanks to the addition of Pippa (Kate McKinnon) four friends become five. Five great characters but even more importantly, great actors. The whole movie is supported by their performances and would not be enjoyable to watch without it.

Exotic vacation turned nightmarish: Snatched

Emily Middleton is a dreamer. With no goals in life, she floats from one job and one boyfriend to the next. Dumped by the latest bad boy, she decides to take her mother on the non-refundable romantic trip she has booked to South America. Mother and daughter have opposite personalities but getting along will be the least of their worries. Indeed, they quickly end up being kidnapped. For Emily and Linda, a range of outrageous adventures await.

“I don’t want to go to an orphanage. I don’t want to be an orphan. I want my ma-ma.”- Jeffrey

Nowhere near as popular as Bridesmaids which paved the way for female-led comedies, those two movies are still worth a watch. Ladies, ditch the boys, bring on the wine and settle in front of the TV. You will have a laugh.
