Finally!!!! Cockburn libraries has acquired one of the best movies of all time on DVD.

Check it out, you won’t be disappointed. Cool Runnings is a classic. It is funny, audacious and overall brilliant. A movie like Walt Disney used to do them, in the line of Mighty ducks. Jamaican bobsled at his best…

Feel the Rhythm! Feel the Rhyme! Get on up, it’s bobsled time! Cool Runnings!

Cool runnings

Derice Bannock is a Jamaican sprinter. He has been training for a long time and wants to compete in the Olympics. However, an unfortunate event makes him fail the trials. Where to go from there? Not wanting to waste all his efforts, he chooses to compete in a different category and even a different sport altogether: bobsled. There is not much snow in Jamaica and to help him figure everything out he asks the help of a dishonored coach. Together they will start the first Jamaican Bobsled Team. Throughout their adventure, they will be laughed at and mocked but they will never give up.

Inspired by true events, this movie is really uplifting. It teaches you to be true to yourself.  The Jamaican bobsled team is the ultimate underdog which brings some inspiring but mostly hilarious moments. Thanks to an excellent cast, this film is really one of a kind. Years later, you will find yourself quoting Sanka Coffie and laugh out loud at his quirkiness. Cool runnings is about the human spirit, its strengths and weaknesses. Never give up on your dreams.

Sanka Coffie: All I’m saying, mon, is if we walk Jamaican, talk Jamaican, and *is* Jamaican, then we sure as hell better bobsled Jamaican.

Most importantly, it is a comedy with jokes that work. Personally, I have seen it so many times I cannot count but I still find it funny every time. The colorful characters, the silliness, the coolness makes it a real, unforgettable gem.
