The Spearwood Library Crime Club now only meets once a month (1st Wednesday from 10am -12.00) at the Cockburn Seniors’ Centre. You are welcome to join criminal profiler John Earley and the group on November 4th when they will be discussing Capital Punishment in the UK.
Some interesting facts:
Under the reign of Henry VIII, 72,000 people are estimated to have been executed by methods such as boiling, burning at the stake, decapitation and hanging, sometimes combined with drawing and quartering while still alive.
In 1810 capital punishment in England included 220 crimes punishable by death. Some of these crimes included being in the company of Gypsies for one month or blacking the face or using a disguise whilst commiting a crime.
