Ever thought about keeping chickens in an urban environment?

Cockburn Libraries have many resources to help you learn more ABOUT

this rewarding hobby!

A couple of years ago, I wrote this blog about sustainable living and chicken keeping, and I’m happy to report that we still love our chooks! These birds are a great pet – easy to care for and most breeds lay around five eggs per week. Every local council has different regulations for urban chicken-keeping, here you can read the City of Cockburn’s chicken regulations.

At a recent City of Cockburn Sustainable Living workshop, novices and experienced chook owners alike enjoyed learning about chicken behaviours and characteristics, suitable habitat and key health indicators. They discovered the many benefits of keeping chickens, including weed and insect control for the garden and fresh eggs.
