Beauty and the Beast has always been one of my favourite fairy tales. Disney created a perfect animation version in 1991. I have seen it more times than I can count. It reminds me of my childhood so when I heard that Hollywood was making a live action movie, I was excited and terrified at the same time. How to translate the magic? It was a colossal job and I believe that they managed to do it justice (much more than the 2014 version with Vincent Cassel and Lea Seydoux which was quite bad to say the least).
An enchanted tale and a beautiful movie.
I don’t think I need to go in details here so I will be brief. Arrogant prince turns into beast because enchantress wants to teach him a lesson. Beautiful and intelligent maiden meets beast. Unimaginable happens. They all lived happily ever after.
An adaptation not far from perfection.
I really enjoyed this movie. Indeed, a few things have finally been explained. The death of Belle’s mother, the way she managed to put the Beast on a horse by herself and the fact that nobody in town remembers the castle. I also liked the bond between Belle and the Beast created thanks to their love of books. Their love makes sense.
Of course there are a few things that I am disappointed about but nothing major. Gaston might have needed more muscles. Belle’s house shouldn’t have been right in the village, the beast could have been taller and the prince more handsome for example. However, Belle is perfect. The songs and the enchanted characters are straight out of a fairy tale and the story line doesn’t deviate from the original which I very much appreciated.
I hope you enjoy it as well.
