Empire of the Sun was the big winner at last Thursday night’s ARIA awards. The side project for Nick Littlemore from Pnau, and Perth’s Luke Steele from the Sleepy Jackson, took out the big categories of Album of the Year and Best Pop Release for the album Walking on a Dream, Best Group, and Single of the Year for the album’s title track. The duo also won Best Video, Best Cover Art, and Producer of the Year in the previously announced artisan categories.

Even though she’s from New Zealand, Ladyhawke won the ARIA for Breakthrough Artist Album for her self-titled debut. AC/DC won Best Rock Album and Highest Selling Album for Black Ice. The Wiggles won Best Children’s Album for The Wiggles Go Bananas!

Other winners include:  Sarah Blasko (album: As Day Follows Night) –  Best Female Artist;  Hilltop Hoods (album: State of the Art) – Best Urban Release;  The Presets  – Best Dance Release;   C. W. Stoneking (album; Jungle Blues) – Best Blues & Roots Album;  Troy Cassar-Daley (album: I Love This Place) – Best Country Album;  and Bertie Blackman (album: Secrets and Lies) – Best Independent Release.
