It’s coming up to the Easter weekend and that means choccies from the Easter Bunny. Well, I can’t deliver on the chocolates for you but I can deliver on another anime update. Sweet!

As always, we have several quality new and classic titles to choose from, so take a look and reserve a few while you’re at it.

Some awesome new series include:

Love, chunibyo & other delusions! = Chu-2 byo demo koi ga shitai! : series collection

Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions- Series Collection“Yuta Togashi has a problem. He used to be a “chunibyo,” one of the thousands of Japanese students so desperate to stand out that they’ve literally convinced themselves that they have secret knowledge and hidden powers. But now that he’s starting high school, he’s determined to put aside his delusions and face life head on. The trouble is Rikka Takanashi, his upstairs neighbor, is just a little bit delusional herself. And she knows all about his past indiscretions.”

A funny and silly but ultimately heartfelt and touching series. Recommended to those of us who refuse to grow up!

Blast of tempest. [dvd] Collection 1 and Blast of tempest. [dvd] Collection 2

Blast of tempest. [dvd] Collection 1

Blast of tempest. [dvd] Collection 2“One day, a sorceress princess was stuffed into a barrel and banished.
One day, a single girl was suddenly murdered, and the culprit still runs free.
And one day, a battle spanning time and space over magic and revenge began!”
A complex sci-fi/fantasy series that bends time and space, and logic to the limit and beyond. For those who don’t feel like it’s true sci-fi unless it makes your brain hurt!

Silver spoon. [dvd] Season 1 collection
Silver spoon. [dvd] Season 1 collection“The only reason why Yugo Hachiken decided to attend the Oezo Agricultural High School (a.k.a Ezono) was simply because the school had a dormitory. Entering Ezono was a way for Yugo to run away from the stifling academic pressures in the city, however, it didn’t take long for him to realize that life is not that simple”
Expecting a run of the mill “fish out of water” comedy using a school farm as a novelty backdrop, this series surprised me with it’s mostly down to earth portrayal of both a school environment and the realities of a life on the land. I give it 4 out of 5 freshly carved pork chops!

One piece. Collection 2 [dvd]

One piece. Collection 2What can I say, it’s more of the seemingly never-ending One Piece phenomenon. If you follow this manga/anime series you’ll enjoy it – the rest of us will stand to the side and scratch our heads in wonder.

K-ON!! [dvd]. Season 2, Collection 1, [Episodes 1-13] and K-ON!! [dvd]. Season 2 Collection 2, [Episodes 14-27]

K-ON!! [dvd]. Season 2, Collection 1, [Episodes 1-13]

K-ON!! [dvd]. Season 2 collection 2, [Episodes 14-27]

The adorable girls from Sakuragaoka High’s Light Music Club are back for a full length second season. They are a year older but not, it seems, any wiser and need to recruit new members for their always struggling club.
Stand by for some new characters, new band members and more wacky hijinks from these tea sipping rockers!

K-On! [dvd] : the movie

K-On! the movie

It’s graduation time for the older members of the Light Music Club, but before their final send off there’s one last adventure to be had. “Get ready for a Magical Musical Tour as the whole gang takes in the sights and sounds of London and prepares for one last amazing encore!”

Rock on, K-on!!

Professor Layton: [dvd] and the eternal diva

Professor Layton and the eternal diva

“The Professor receives a letter from his old student, the famous opera diva Janice Quatlane who will soon perform at the legendary Crown Petone Opera House.  … meanwhile, a rash of disappearances hits London. Two young school girls are the latest victims and the Professor suspects it’s related to the strange things that are happening at the theatre.”

Petite Cossette [dvd]

Petite Cossette

“Eiri, a talented art student, works part-time in an antique shop in a quiet part of town. One afternoon, he uncovers a delicate Venetian glass holding a startling secret within. When Eiri peers into the glass, he can see a young girl, her life playing out like a movie solely for him to see. Curious, he stares into the glass, hoping to learn more about the enchanting girl inside. This is Cossette waiting 250 years for someone to finally see her and set her free…”

Jin-Roh [dvd] : the Wolf Brigade

Jin-Roh - The Wolf Brigade

“Ten years have passed since war changed the face of Japan; a Japan which now burns with the fire of civil unrest. To combat this … an elite group of heavily-armored soldiers was formed. Trained like dogs, these men were to combat the growing unrest with extreme and severe prejudice – these men were the Capitol Police. However, when Constable Fuse, a member of the Capitol Police, hesitates to kill a young courier, he is forced to face his own humanity and ultimately decide – is it better to live as a chained dog? Or die a free man?”

Very loosely interwoven with imagery and symbolism from the fairy tale of Little Red Riding Hood, this is a slowly paced and beautifully sad meditation on one man’s struggle between love and duty.

Rounding the list off nicely are two Studio Ghibli titles – a classic and their last (forever?) theatrical release:

My neighbor Totoro [dvd] / a film by Hayao Miyazaki.

My Neighbor Totoro

“Two young girls, Satsuki and Mei, have moved with their father into a new home in the country, while their mother recovers from illness in a nearby hospital. To their surprise, they soon discover that they share this home with some rather unusual creatures and even stranger neighbours – forest guardians that the girls dub Totoro. When trouble occurs, their new friends will help them rediscover hope.”

When Marnie was there [dvd]

When Marnie was there

“When shy, artistic Anna moves to the seaside to live with her aunt and uncle, she stumbles upon an old mansion surrounded by marshes, and the mysterious young girl, Marnie, who lives there. The two girls instantly form a unique connection and friendship that blurs the lines between fantasy and reality. As the days go by, a nearly magnetic pull draws Anna back to the Marsh house again and again, and she begins to piece together the truth surrounding her strange new friend.”

Don’t forget, Easter is a giving holiday – I’ve given you some awesome anime, so I expect some chocolate when you come in to borrow these titles. Deal?
