We’re nearing the end of the Summer holidays, so Pram Jams and Storytime sessions will be starting up again soon 🙂 Dates and times to mark on your calendar are as follows (and all continue for the remainder of term 1) : Coolbellup Library’s first Pram Jams session for 2017 will be held on Monday 30th January, at 10am. Coolbellup’s first Storytime session (and welcome to Briana, our new Children’s librarian!) will be on Wednesday 1st February at 10.30am. I have a horrible, terrible, nasty, scary truth to share with you all, lovely Pram Jams parents. Are you sitting down? The shock could knock you right off your feet! Okay, here it is: Your baby will, one day soon, have a birthday. You will stop counting your baby’s age in weeks, even months, soon enough. Before you know it, that first birthday will whiz by and next you’ll be answering ’18 months’ no longer… Then it will be ‘oh, he’s just turned 2!’. And then, he will be ‘2 and a half’ for as long as you can eek...Read More
Easily my top pick in the Children’s Book Council of Australia – Book of the Year 2016 shortlist is the beautiful book Perfect, which is written by Danny Parker and illustrated by Freya Blackwood. Danny Parker lives right here in Perth, though we can’t claim him as home grown – Danny and his family came to Australia from the UK in 2004 on what he calls ‘a big adventure’. Freya Blackwood lives in Orange, NSW, with her daughter, pet dog and their 4 chickens. Perfect / Danny Parker & Freya Blackwood Perfect is such a simply perfect book that it rates a mention...Read More
Hello lovely Pram Jam families! After the thrill of a week off work and a flying visit to Melbourne earlier this month, I am feeling a little SAD this week 🙁 The weight of the world is on my shoulders and I have very little motivation to embrace the remainder of term 3 – which is terrible because this is a very special time of the year for us Library folk, with Children’s Book Week just days away and lots of little minds in need of constant stimulation and loving support. When I am feeling down I will often turn to my favourite...Read More
I realise that this is possibly not the most original blog topic ever… but I couldn’t help myself! My kids and I have been having a wonderful time as the weather shifts into winter, snuggling up and toasting marshmallows by the camp fire in the freezing cold, riding bikes and dodging storms, singing songs and crafting up a storm at Shan’s storytimes. Together this week we made the most gorgeous rain-bow cloud and the toddler has been running around the house, shaking the cloud on people and saying ‘I rain on you! I rain on you!’ He has developed a...Read More
I am (and always have been) fascinated by etymology – I love knowing quirky little bits of information about languages. The tiny amount of Italian that I studied in school was just barely enough to allow me to order food and wine in Italy, so I am forever envious of the families who speak more than one language fluently – the wonderful benefits of raising multilingual babies amaze me! It all gets me thinking…. What if I had married a tall dark and handsome (foreign) man? Or, if we could afford to hire an au pair, would I find one who was happy to...Read More
