Pram Jam with David – Sense & Sensibility

Hi there everyone! Welcome to the new year and another Pram Jam post by yours truly. Given the spectacularly awful weather we had over the weekend (don’t even think about saying it was nice) and how this affected me, I thought a theme about the most fundamental ways in which we interact and learn from the world around us would be just the ticket. I’m talking about our senses. I’m pretty sure we know all about the traditional 5 senses: Sight     Sound     Touch     Taste     Smell  And there are many, many JK books to cover you...

Anime Update – Summer 2017/18

NEW ANIME TITLES ON DVD TO BORROW FROM COCKBURN LIBRARIES So, another year is over and a new one is just beginning. Hmmm … I think there’s a song about that. Anyway, we’ve seen some awesome anime titles join our collection this last year so to celebrate the incoming year let’s add some more! We have a nice spread of genres this time round so there should be something for everybody. Let’s start with an old title I hadn’t watched for a while. It’s weird, full of oddball characters, has some funky animation stylings and doesn’t seem to make...

Pram Jam with David – It’s Christmas!

I’m dreaming of a white Christmas,  Just like the ones I … … ‘ve seen on TV and in books but never actually experienced myself in my entire life! Well, summer is what’s up at Christmas in this hemisphere of the world. We don’t need no beautiful winter scenery, or fancy white snow, or tongues stuck to frozen poles – we’ve got beautiful, vitamin D filled sunshine and beaches full of surf, sand and sun lotion and barbies and backyard cricket – “Howzat!” [Yeah, so stick a prawn on that! – Ed.] Hopefully the scorching heat will hold off until after Christmas but what kind of...

Pram Jam with David – In the Kitchen

As my last post was all about being in the garden, I thought it would be appropriate for this one to follow on from there. So let’s pick a few veggies out of that patch you’ve been tending these last two months and head into the kitchen! As you can imagine, food and kitchens are a match made in heaven and when you’ve gone to the effort of growing the food yourself, there’s nothing more satisfying than getting it into the kitchen and cooking up something special. When you get the kids involved, it’s more than just an opportunity...

Cake in a Cup – an event and a book review

We had a great school holidays kids event at Success Library Monday and, since the inspiration for the activity came from a book that passed by my desk some time ago, I thought it fitting to post an event summary/book review and share the fun around! So, what was it all about? Well, it’s quite simple: we each made ourselves a cake – in – a – cup. Amazing! [Technically you made two each, you greedy gutses! – Ed.] Cake-in-a-cup, mug cakes, cup-o-cake (I made the last one up) – call it what you will – the idea is...

Anime Update – Spring 2017

12 new anime titles on DVD to borrow from Cockburn Libraries. Spring is in the air! Well, not really: 18°C maximums, rain, hail, thunder, blizzards … [maybe not the last one – Ed.] But regardless of the weather, another change in seasons means we have an excuse to post another anime update! Yattaaaaaa! We have an interesting mix of titles for you this time around, so lets get stuck in. First up, and for the first time in quite a while, we have a few feature films to showcase: The Red Turtle While published as part of the prestegious Studio Ghibli...
