Last week saw the release of the new movie The Maze Runner, a film based on young adult series of the same name by author James Dashner.
The story follows Thomas, who wakes up in a box with no memories except for his name. When the box opens, he is surrounded by boys of varying ages with the same problem.
The excitement begins when Thomas emerges from the box and finds himself trapped in the Glade which is surrounded by an enormous stone maze that no one has been able to escape.
In addition to being trapped by giant walls that move every night, they boys also have to survive against the terrifying Grievers; dark and horrible creatures which roam the maze.
While many in the group are resigned to their fate in this unusual prison, Thomas is different, and strives to discover their purpose for being there and a way to escape.
My son and I really enjoyed this movie. It was thrilling and action packed and kept our attention. Having read the book, I took particular joy in noting that the film followed the storyline with only minor variations. I am very excited to read the rest of the series now in anticipation of the sequels that are sure to follow!
The Maze Runner trilogy; consisting of The Maze Runner, The Scorch Trials, The Death Cure, and the prequel: The Kill Order; is available at City of Cockburn libraries in both print and eBook versions.
