  1. As an early childhood educator i believe children should be encouraged to use library resources, however other library users should be respected by parents. Maybe the children s section could be moved to the front of the library and an adults only area to the back. This may not cut down noise, but might help with distraction? May be this could be considered for the new library location!

  2. Perhaps have the use of the Youth Centre(as it’s close to the shops) for the young kids storytime. A great way to introduce mums to the youth centre and for those who have older siblings

  3. Modern public libraries are not meant to be quiet places; you are allowed to talk in public libraries you don’t need to be silent. The old cliche of librarians and library staff telling everyone to “shoosh!” is just that – an old cliche. If at times there is excessive noise or unruly behaviour that is continually disruptive to others, then that needs to be addressed when it occurs.

Just a note on one of the suggestions above about moving the Success Library to another of the shopping complex – A new, much larger Success Library will be built on the corner of Wentworth Pde & Beeliar Dve as part of the Council’s GP Super Clinic -Integrated Primary Health Care Centre and Library.

  4. I go to Cockburn and am always impressed by the level of courtesy and attention awarded to me by the staff and the selection of product available.
As to the noise level complained about by those people with nothing better to do , perhaps they should buy earplugs ?

  5. Fantastic library for reference and the size of stock of books et.al.

There is a great need for small study cubicles and small group study rooms.

Take the ping off the windows computers.

A security guard may be needed for the “yobs”.

Coolbellup has a great set up. Spearwood only has one meeting room.

  6. Just curious as to what library people are referring to here regarding the kids. Spearwood, Coolbellup or Success? We appreciate the great feedback.

  7. The library is descent and the staff are generally okay and helpful. But, the staff need to grow some spine and tell the noisy and screaming kids to shut up.

A library is neither a playground or a coffee shop. If the parents are unable to control their kids, the staff should tell them to
    leave.

Put a prominent sign up stating the need to be quiet as a condition of entry and for being allowed to remain in the library.

Before anyone says anything about kids being “naturally” noisy, I will state that I have three kids and they are “unaturaly” quiet when they are in the library.

This is because I make it crystal clear to my kids that the library is not a playground and I make it clear to them the serious consequences of misbehaving like inconsiderate louts.

  8. As a parent of 3 small library users I can appreciate the above comments, children are noisy and it is a parents responsibility to teach them that a library is a place to be quiet, however this is a difficult task at the Success library due to all the shopping centre noise. The library should be moved to a quieter part of the shopping complex – probably over next to Rivers store and Video Ezy, etc.

  9. oh please, you want children to enjoy the library and for them to learn that it is a place to enjoy not somewhere they can’t talk and interact. Totally agree there should be a room set aside for people who want to study.

  11. FROM THE COMMENTS ABOVE STATING THE LIBRARY IS TOO NOISY MAY I SUGGEST A SMALL ROOM BE MADE AVAILABLE FOR LIBRARY USERS NEEDING TO STUDY.

  12. Please note,paents.
The library is NOT a creche or a child-minding organisation. If the child is proving disruptive, please take the child out.

  13. The library is definately too noisy! My daughter who is in first year uni went there to study last wednesday morning and was unable to due to all the noise. I had suggested the library for her as it should be a quiet place. We are wiser now and wont make that mistake again. Disappointed indeed.

  14. At coolbellup I enjoy going there very much, staff always help me at any time. You should be lucky in having people like these serving the The Cockburn council. The lack of smiling staff is on the rise.

  15. The noise level inside the library is just too much some times. Specially when kids are around. Someone has to tell then to be quiet!

    Thanks
