This is the Cockburn Libraries Storytime Blog where we like to share our favourite themes, books, rhymes and activities with you. The theme for this blog post is colours!
Monsters Love Colours by Mike Austin
Monster Love Colours, and the monsters in this book love to scribble and draw but only in their favourite colours. Red, Yellow and Blue have monster friends that don’t have a colour and this book explores mixing colours to make new ones. What happens when Yellow Monster and Blue Monster get together?
Press Here by Hervé Tullet
Now press the yellow dot, rub the dot,
Tap it, shake it, harder, just a little harder again…
What a mess the blue, red and yellow dots are.
Press Here is an excellent interactive game of instruction and illustration that children love.

Now, how about a colour rhyme…
Shapes (to the tune of Twinkle Twinkle)
You’ll need shapes or things in different colours.
Put your Blue shape in the air
Hold it high and leave it there.
Put your Blue shape on your back
Now please lay it in your lap.
Hold your Blue shape in your hand
Now everyone please stand.
Wave your Blue shape at the door
Now please lay it on the floor.
Hold your Blue shape and jump, jump, jump.
Hold your Blue shape way, way up!
Repeat with other colours.
