Storytime with Michaela – Sleepy

Ahhh sleep… my old friend… I used to feel guilty over ‘wasting’ my weekends snoozing, staying in bed till midday then indulging in an afternoon nap on the sofa.
Until I had kids.
Both of mine were highly skilled at night waking. All night, every night, until they were over 2 (normal baby/toddler sleep!). I still regularly get a “Mum, can I get in your bed?” in the small hours of the morning. I treasure those sleepy cuddles now as I know it won’t be too long before they grow out of wanting them. But after nine years of sleep deprivation, I do not regret those pre-child sleep-ins one bit!

Go to Sleep, Jessie!

Go to sleep, Jessie! by Libby Gleeson and Freya Blackwood

Baby Jessie is sharing a room with her big sister, and keeping her awake! The family tries different ways to help Jessie to go to sleep but the best solution comes from her sister. This book is beautifully illustrated and is a sweet depiction of the frustrations and joys of being a sibling.

Goodnight moon by Margaret Wise Brown

This classic bedtime story is a lovely way to end the day, with its gentle rhymes and uncomplicated drawings. Published in 1947, the peaceful rhythm appeals to children of all ages.

Check on me by Andrew Daddo

This cute story portrays the bedtime routine of a typical young child – books, cuddles, chats, a goodnight kiss. And then – a drink, toilet, a bit more chat, all the things they do to put off sleep just a little longer.

A sleepy song – Five in the bed

There were five in a bed (hold up five fingers)
and the little one said “roll over, roll over” (roll hands over each other)
So they all rolled over and one fell out!

There were four in the bed (hold up four fingers)
There were three in the bed (hold up three fingers)
There were two in the bed (hold up two fingers)

There was one in the bed (hold up one finger)
and the little one said “Good night!” (pretend to sleep)
