Southern Ruby is a really captivating book by Belinda Alexandra.
It is set in New Orleans. Amanda is orphaned as a toddler and lives with her grandmother in Sydney. When her grandmother dies she discovers a link to a family she never knew. She then flies to New Orleans to meet the rest of her family.
Amanda finds herself welcomed into a family who have always loved her, though she knew nothing about them. Amanda’s grandmother Ruby is a fascinating lady with lots of memories and secrets which she feels is time to start letting go of and passing the secrets on to Amanda before she dies. I love the way Belinda Alexandra has captured the issues of racism and prejudice in New Orleans both in the 1950’s and the present.
I really enjoyed the book and would definitely recommend it. You can always reserve it on line or just come in and reserve it.
