At Cockburn Libraries not only do we have an awesome collection of books we also have a very awesome music collection. I would like to share some of my favourite new additions to the collection. Now I’m not going to pretend to be some kind of music reviewer extraordinaire / Molly Meldrum type person, in fact what I know about music would probably fit in the very upper corner of something very small, like a pen lid (yes that is the closest thing in my eye line as I write this). But what I do know is what I enjoy listening to.
I like this
AM / Arctic Monkeys
This album is a cracker, this is the 5th album the British rockers have released and in my opinion their best yet. It was voted 9 in the Rolling Stone magazine’s ( we have magazines too) Hottest 50 Albums of 2013 and three tracks from this album made it into Triple J’s Hottest 100 2013.
I don’t like this
Up all night / One Direction
I don’t like this because it is bad and I am not 12. I don’t even think the 12 year old me would like this, back in my day 12yr olds were listening to cool stuff like Nirvana’s ‘Smells like teen spirit’ , Cher’s ‘The shoop shoop song’ and Right Said Fred’s ‘I’m too sexy’…
So here are a few albums I have been listening to lately that make my ears happy. I hope you and your ears enjoy them too.
I don’t consider myself to be a country/ folk music fan, but I like this, so maybe I am. Steve Earle is a master storyteller and that could be why I enjoyed listening to this album. I do like stories.
This is the Perth rocker’s 3rd album and it is very different from her usual style of hard-rock blues. I do prefer her older stuff but this album is okay- a mix of pop/waning synths, erratic beats and bizarre lyrics. Interesting.
This is one of my favourite albums at the moment. One for you and your Mum. Soon after borrowing it I went and bought two copies, one for my Mum and one for me. Another gem from an Australian band. My favourite track at the moment is ‘Old man blues’. If you like Fleetwood Mac and Creedence you will most likely enjoy the lead single from this album ‘Southern Sun’. Another highlight is the saxaphone solo on the title track ‘Harlequin Dream’. If you haven’t already you must listen to this album.
Below are some other albums I have enjoyed recently.
Get clicking, reserving and then listening. If you like let me know, if you don’t please do share what you are into. I won’t judge you
much at all.
