Event: Monday 9th June @ Spearwood Library. 12 noon. Lunch & Listen
There appeared to be some disagreement between would-be settlers of The Swan River Colony and Captain James Stirling. The good Captain enthused that the country was “as beautiful as anything of this kind I had ever witnessed” while disgruntled settlers suffered such deprivation that they were driven to despair that ” the man who declared this country good, deserves hanging nine time over”.
In his talk “Beginnings” popular broadcaster, author and Director of Heritage Perth, Richard Offen will trace the history of WA from over 40,000 years ago, its earliest inhabitants and their encounters with Europeans through to the foundation and early days of the Swan River Colony. Hopefully, he will also be able to put the differing opinions on the future of the Colony to rest.
This is a free event at the Spearwood Library, 9 Coleville Crescent, Spearwood but we would appreciate your booking at
