Bookstars (3:30pm on the second Monday of the month – Success Library)
Cockburn Libraries is committed to helping children learn to read.
To help parents and children, an experienced teacher has created the Bookstars programme running out of Success Library monthly. Using our Ready, Steady, Go Early Reader Collection children are asked to keep a record of the books they read and attend the monthly meeting where they will be given a certificate and prize to mark their progress before we read a story and do some craft.
The sessions is aimed at any child who is currently learning to read at school.
In addition to the presenter who can answer a range of questions, there are also handouts to assist with word decoding and comprehension skills, as well as tips for reading with your child.
They get a certificate for their excellent achievement along with a little prize for encouragement.
After all of that is done we read a book/story and do something crafty. Just for fun, because we truly believe that reading is fun here at the library and we want children to feel the same.
Bookstars is not just for children learning to read. If you would like to come along just for the story and the craft you are more than welcome. We would love to have you.
Bookstars is also for parents who are not quite sure about some of the things they can do to assist their child with reading. Cockburn Libraries have also created the following documents to help with Word Decoding Strategies and Comprehension Activities.
We hope to see you at the library.
