Australian libraries generate nearly $2 billion net benefit annually
The Australian Library & Information Association, on behalf of a consortium of state and territory libraries, asked SGS Economics to work out the benefits of libraries to communities and to the economy. SGS found the activity around library buildings and services helped support nearly 31,000 jobs nationally and that libraries services spend more than $3 billion on products and services. SGS estimates that there is a net annual benefit of nearly $2 billion generated by libraries.
