5 Best Perth Facebook Pages for animal lovers.

We are lucky to have many different types of flora and fauna in Western Australia. With the Roe 8 project drawing major media coverage, the subject of native wildlife has hit the headlines. Several organisations in Cockburn and Western Australia are dedicated to helping injured animals and re-homing domestic animals for a second chance.

Many of these organisations have ways to donate, others use volunteer programs to help injured animals regain their health to be released back into their environments.

Native ARC Inc.

Native Arc is a local rehabilitation centre based In Bibra Lake who give treatment to 2000 injured animals per year. The Native ARC Facebook page is busy with pictures of animals in various stages of rehabilitation – some highlights are the Nankeen Kestrel that was raised at the centre, the giant dugite that was released in scrub land and the resident Kangaroos and Wallaby’s. Give their Facebook page a like and receive info about what is happening to Native ARC. Their number for injured wildlife inquiries is 9417 7105

Perth Zoo

Most Perth residents have been to Perth Zoo since it’s opening in 1898. It homes over 1200 animals in South Perth and has three main zones (Australian Walkabout, Asian Rainforest and African Savannah) with several smaller zones housing primates and birds. The Zoo is a key part of conservation of endemic, indigenous and non-native species. Successful breeding programs include the Numbat,  Rothschild Giraffe and the endangered Sumatran Orangutan.

If you are interested in giving back to the Perth Zoo, they welcome donations for conservation and run volunteer programs. Head to their Facebook Page for more information.

Kanyana Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre

Kanyana Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre has been an integral part of Western Australia’s Wildlife conservation since the 1970’s. It is now a pivotal part of the rehabilitation process in Perth, helping over 1800 injured animals each year.

Kanyana not only takes in rescued animals and birds, they are heavily involved in wildlife education, captive breeding and research of our local species. Tours of the facility are possible – including a unique night tour that shows some of our native animals in their usual nocturnal routine.

Click here to go through to their Facebook page for more information on tours and what Kanyana do. For urgent inquiries, phone 9291 3900.

Kaarakin Black Cockatoo Conservation Centre.

Kaarakin is a dedicated Black Cockatoo Centre, they deal with the three types of Black Cockatoos – The Carnaby’s, the Red Tail and the lesser known and often misrepresented Baudin Black Cockatoo.

Located on the defunct Kahuna Wildlife Park site, Kaarakin houses hundreds of birds who are often brought in injured. Some are released and others stay with Kaarakin to become part of their breeding program. The site is not open to the public but they do offer educational talks and visit schools on a regular basis.

These three types of cockatoo are endemic to the South-West of Western Australia and they need our help. Donations and volunteers can find information on their Facebook page.

The RSPCA is synonymous with the care of all creatures great and small. In Western Australia, they are located in Malaga, however their inspectors are active throughout the whole of the state. The Malaga operation houses animals for adoption, the link to that page can be found here.

RSPCA provides several services outside of their adoption services. They have officers who attend abuse cases, they provide a training service for puppies and they create publications for public awareness.

Just scrolling through their Facebook Page will give you an idea of the breadth of the work. There are also many examples of the love animals have for their owners.
