100 Most Borrowed Picture Books of 2013

The Very Cranky Bear shouldn’t be cranky now, after being the most borrowed picture book of 2013. It’s great to see an Australian book at the top of the list. Author Nick Bland, as well as finishing #1 with his Cranky Bear book, also appears at #4 on the list with The Wrong Book. Both books featured during the past two National Simultaneous Storytimes, The Very Cranky Bear in 2012 and The Wrong Book in 2013 (this year’s National Simultaneous Storytime will be on Wednesday 21 May – put that in your diary). Nick Bland also has three other books in the Top 100!

In terms of most books in the list, Nick Bland’s five books is equal second with the five Octonauts books, but the author who appears most in the list is Lynley Dodd, who has seven of her Hairy Maclary and Slinky Malinki books in the list, the highest placed at #7.

And in the year it celebrated its 50th anniversary, Maurice Sendak’s classic book Where the Wild Things Are finished third.
